Nambija is our best-selling lightweight poncho: a charcoal baby alpaca blend with a gray diamond pattern and a hood, in a cut that suits almost everyone.

Woven by hand in Otavalo from a baby alpaca wool blend — baby alpaca is the finest grade of the fibre — it is light enough to wear over a shirt indoors and warm enough for a cold evening walk. The dark, geometric palette is the one customers tell us they wear most.

“Baby alpaca” is the name of the finest grade of alpaca fibre, not the age of the animal — alpacas are shorn once a year, like sheep.

Warmth

Lightweight (about 1.4 lb). Ideal over a shirt or thin sweater in cool weather; layer it over a jacket when it turns cold.

Size & fit — one size

A poncho has no sleeves or seams to fit, so one size fits almost every adult; your size mainly changes how much of you it covers.

• Standard width. Fits any adult; if you want more arm coverage, see our extra-large ponchos.
• If you're 5'4": hem just below the knee, arms covered past the elbow.
• If you're 6'2": hem at the knee, arms covered to the elbow.

Care

• Hand wash cold with a mild detergent (or delicate cycle in a mesh bag)
• Do not bleach or tumble dry
• Lay flat or hang with support to dry, out of direct sun
• Steam or low iron with a cloth if needed

Handmade, so no two are identical. Each piece is woven and dyed by hand in Otavalo, Ecuador. Colours can be a shade lighter or darker than on screen, and fringe and pattern placement vary slightly — that is the signature of a real artisan piece, not a flaw.
