Natural Tule Straw. Traditional Bedroll. Handmade in Ecuador.
A large hand-woven petate: a traditional mat woven from natural tule rush straw, 42.5" x 73" (108 x 185 cm).
The petate (from the Nahuatl word “petatl”) has been used across Central and South America since pre-Columbian times — as a bed at night, a seat by day and a mat for drying seeds and grain in the sun. Today it works as a rustic rug, a floor bed or bedroll, or a natural dog mat.
